Gary L. Cope, 73, of Calvert City, passed away on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at the Ray and Kay Ekstein Hospice Care Center of Paducah.
Gary was a retired driver for the J.C. Swinford company. Gary was a US Navy veteran who spent 12 years deployed in submarine assignments. He was a member of The American Legion Post #31 of Paducah, and the Jackson Purchase Friends of Bluegrass. He most loved being part of Cope Brothers Bluegrass band. Gary could be regularly seen playing base at the Ol Kentucky Opry in Draffenville.
Gary is survived by wife, Sue; three daughters, Terry (Michael) James-Lax of Murray, Tammy Metzger of Pryorsburg, and Tracy Cope of Murfreesboro, Tn.; one brother, Carrol Wayne Cope of Lone Oak; six grandchildren, Justin and Jerikka Neville, Devin, Damion, and Caleb Metzger, and Lexi Cope; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay Cope and Katherine Blankenship Cope; three brothers, Larry, Kenneth, and Barry Cope; and one granddaughter, Nikea Cope.
A private family memorial service will be held and announced at a future date.
