Alan Herron

Alan Herron, 77, passed away at his home in Farley at 4:30pm on Monday March 17, 2014.

A native of Barren County, KY. Alan
was a graduate of Clarkson High School. He attended Tennessee Tech, where he earned the nickname “Road Runner” for his speed and agility on the basketball court.

Alan served two tours of duty with the US Army; one as a volunteer and once as a draftee. He served on the military funeral detail executing the 21 gun salute for our nations heroes.

For most of Alan’s adult life he was in sales or management. Having worked for Tommy Blair and in the 1960’s managing the Cabana Club and The Ken Bar Inn Resort. His skills took him and his family to Ohio, Arkansas, and Louisiana. For the past fifteen years, he worked for Billy Hale at International Furniture and Furniture World Galleries.

Alan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce (Vancil) Herron; two daughters, D’Arcy (Tildon) Beasley, Dara Herron; one grandson, Lane Dunn; and special friends, Art Harris, Gene Edwards, Houston Elmore, and David Dunn; one sister, Betty (Lee) Bruner; two brothers, Carson (Gaye) Herron, and Jerry (Pat) Herron; also one aunt, Virginia (Herron) McCoy; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Alvin Herron and Bea Herron; his parents-in-law, Otto and Dulcie Vancil; one sister, Gloria Jean Herron; one brother, Joe (Shirlean) Herron; one brother –in-law and sister-in-law.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Lindsey Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made the American Cancer Society.
