Mr. Christian Gould, 95 of Paducah died at 5:45pm Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital.
Mr. Gould was born on December 20, 1917 to Anna and George Gould in Olney, Illinois. Educated in Olney Elementary School, he graduated from Patoka High School, Patoka, Indiana in 1935. He graduated from Indianapolis' Normal College of the American Gymnastics University in 1940; graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana in 1942. He taught there before being commissioned in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific. He was at Subic Bay in the Philippines when the war ended and participated in the invasion of Olinawa, survived three vicious typhoons, the second of which sank his little ship - wooden and 110 feet long. Became active in the U.S. Naval reserve in 1948, retiring as a full Lieutenant in 1964. Following his naval career, he taught one year in Patoka High School. He was a medical service representative for Parke Davis and Company for 31, years before retiring in 1979.
He was the original Paducah Ambassador for Dolly McNutt, serving 25 years. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel and he was a retired Sunday school teacher, superintendent, Deacon and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Paducah.
His wife of 55 years, Eugenia (Palmer), passed away in 1995. He is survived by three children, Frederica Lester, Susan Hipple, and George Gould, their devoted spouses; four grandchildren, William Lester, Ashley Stringfield, Katherine Heits, Kyle Gould; and two great-granddaughters Maddox Heits and Palmer Stringfield.
Friends may call on Wednesday February 13, 2013 from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Paducah.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Library at 200 N 7th St Paducah, KY 42001.
