Gloria Jean Richardson

May 25, 1947 — June 21, 2019

Gloria Jean (Jeannie) Richardson, 72 of Smithland, Kentucky, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away Friday June 21, 2019 at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center of Paducah.  She is now at peace walking in paradise alongside her mother, brother, and beloved dog Lulu.  She had a very loving and fulfilled life and wouldn’t want anyone to grieve.

She was born Gloria Jean Haley on May 25, 1947 in Hunting Park, California to the late David Humes Haley and Juanita Genevieve Mason.  She was third child of six, her siblings being Helen, Jerry, David, Gary, and Kirk.  She became the matriarch of her family; she had an incredibly loving spirit and provided tenderness and compassion for everyone she met.  She never met a stranger.

Jeannie grew up in the simpler times in La Puente, California where at the age of 13 she meet her sweetheart, Bobby.  Their puppy love grew and into a lifetime of eternal love.  They traveled the road to Las Vegas, Nevada where they said “I do” in a small chapel.  They began their family, having two daughters early in their marriage, Wendy Jean and Tracy Lee.   Together they decided to follow her big brother Jerry and his family to Lone Oak,  Kentucky to have a better life.

Jeannie worked many jobs in her lifetime.  She was a floor lady at the Florsheim Shoe factory in Paducah until its closing in the 90’s.  There she made many lifelong friends.  Afterwards she went on to work at the new store chain Walmart, and then worked very hard and long hours at the Carbide Graphite in Calvert City, KY. until their closure.  Her last job in her career was at the Senior Center of Paducah.  She was doing what she loved, feeding a good home-cooked meal to others.

She loved the holidays, going all out and making every one of them special for all who attended the Center.  And at home she decorated her entire house and hosted the annual Christmas Bingo.  Her health was getting worse forcing her into early retirement, though this gave her and Bob more time to travel back to their roots and see family out west.

Jeannie had a passion for all things she loved to do, she had a very creative spirit.  She loved culinary arts, baking and decorating cakes especially.  She loved miniature scenes and had a great love for collecting dolls of many kinds.  She would love and care for each one of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry, aunts and uncles, infant son Shawn Dean Richardson, son-in-law Christopher Heather, and grandson Mikey Bristow.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert Lee Richardson of Smithland, KY,.  Two daughters, Wendy Jean Richardson of Smithland, Ky.  And Tracy Lee Heater of Grand Rivers, Ky.

Grandchildren , Brandon Bristow of Bardwell, KY. Kevin Bristow of Smithland, KY., Logan Heater of Grand Rivers, KY. Madeline Bailey of Smithland, KY, and Amanda Heater of Grand Rivers, KY.  And her 7 great grandchildren, Autumn, Kyle, Breanna, William, Matthew, Jaxson, and Kaiden.  Aunt Wanda Suter of La Puente, California.  And many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday June 28, 2019 at Lindsey Funeral Home.  Followed by a celebration of life service at 1:00pm at Lindsey Funeral Home with Bro. David Haley officiating.
