Horace Wendell Thurman, 82, passed away Monday, March 29th at Superior Care Home in Paducah.
Mr. Thurman was a member of Broadway Church of Christ. He retired from West Kentucky Gas Company in 1984. Mr. Thurman was the founder of Central State Kidney Foundation and donated the first dialysis equipment to Lourdes Hospital. He was awarded the Duke of Paducah in 1969 and Kentucky Colonel in 1973. Along with these achievements he was married to his wife for 63 years.
Surviving are one brother, Charles & wife Jean Thurman; one grandson, Paul & his wife Melissa Thurman of Paducah; one granddaughter, Rachel & her husband Jason Lane of Benton, one daughter-in-law, Patricia Thurman, great grandchildren, Caleb Audrey, Abigayle and Alivia; sister-in-law Murline Anderson; niece, and Janice Shae Weitlauf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Huntus Tucker Thurman; wife, Lurline Burkhart Thurman; one infant daughter; Denise Thurman; one son, Dennis Byron Thurman; one sister, Johnnie Louise Thurman; and one brother, J.T. Thurman.
Services will be at 11 am Thursday at Roth Funeral Chapel with Andrew Clausen officiating. Burial and memorial dove release will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
