James Solheim Bruce, almost 11 months old, passed peacefully in the arms of his parents at Boston Children’s Hospital on December 31st, 2016 after fighting heart transplant complications.
James was a beautiful little boy who brought joy to everyone he met. He had long eyelashes, deep blue eyes, and a stunning smile that was beyond compare. James loved cuddling, music, dancing, chewing things, and seeing his friends. He was the personification of hope and strength. James was loved by everyone who met him and words can’t describe how much he will be missed.
James is survived by his parents, Whitney and Bryon Bruce, Paducah, KY; paternal grandparents, Melinda Mitchell, and Terry and Jamie Bruce, Erin; paternal great grandparents, Binky Bruce and Billy Powell, Clarksville; maternal grandparents, Donna and Roger Solheim, Frankfort, KY; maternal great grandparents Martha and Roger Solheim, and Flora Perkins, Frankfort, KY. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Our family is eternally grateful for the love and care he received from Boston Children’s Hospital’s doctors, nurses, and staff.
A small memorial service will take place on February 4th in honor of what would have been James’ first birthday. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting James is welcome to attend and share their memories of him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bryon or Whitney Bruce (In Memo Please Put: James Bruce) at Traditions First Bank in Erin, TN. These funds will be given to Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Transplant Center to be distributed to families in hopes of offsetting the financial stress associated with heart transplant.
