Janie Whitson (Reagor) McCaig

Janie Whitson McCaig, age 95, passed away peacefully at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Ky on September 1, 2023 at 8:37pm Born in Rutherford, TN on March 12, 1928, to James & Lutie (Mamaw Dude) Reagor. Janie grew up in Memphis, TN, graduated from Messick High school, and started work as a switchboard operator at the telephone company in Memphis after graduation. Janie met her husband William “WT” McCaig and were married for 42 years, until he passed. They had 2 children, Deborah “Debbie” Brannon and William “Bill” McCaig. They moved to Paducah, Ky in 1958. In her later years in the 1970’s, she worked at Paducah Dry Goods and was a member of the Lone Oak United Methodist Church. Janie started her favorite “role” when she became a grandmother, or “Mamaw” as many knew her as, in 1973 when her first grandchild Stephanie(Michael) Rowland was born. She was then given 2 more grandchildren Angela (Larry) Hamilton and Taylor (Beth) McCaig. She loved being a grandmother and loved doing for others, never for herself. She was then given the role of Great Grandmother to Sara(Charlie) Johnston, Lakain Rowland, Michael Bryan Rowland, Sydnee(Jameson) Chalker, Mikayla(Sean) Manea, John Hamilton, Callie McCaig, and Madelyn McCaig. She was also blessed enough to see a 5th generation with 3 great great grandsons and 2 great great granddaughters. Janie is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, WT; her Parents, James & Lutie, and 1 sister, Jean Camurati. Graveside Services will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah, Ky on Wednesday, September 6th. Friends may visit with the family in the chapel at Woodlawn from 1:30p until the graveside service at 2pm with Pastor Ike Murphy officiating. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
