On Thursday January 11, 2024, at 10:30pm Jesse Calvin Day, Sr. joined his beautiful wife Betty, his loving daughter Lisa & many other members of his family in a beautiful Holler in Heaven.
Born to Milton & Addie (Hall) Day in Harlan, KY in July of 1940, Jess loved family, friends and being outside. Throughout his life in Western Kentucky, you could find him enjoying one of his everyday activities; fiddling with lawn mowers, tillers, etc. with his buddy, the late Charlie O’Dell, or spending his Saturday mornings with his sister & brother in law, the late Mary & Dwain Futrell, enjoying sticky cinnamon rolls that they picked up from an local Amish food stand, kidding around on their backporch on the swing, enjoying country living or grabbin’ a bite to eat with his son, Jerry Wayne, running to the “Trad shop” & Goodwill all before lunchtime; always making sure to make it home in time to settle in to watch some UK Wildcats’ Basketball. GO CATS !! Jess was always ornery, full of jokes and would not think twice about telling you about the petunias & begonias he had planted recently, or about someone falling for 30 minutes- making sure to round out the conversation with mention of Sandusky in there somewhere.
Jess was employed by Illinois Central Railroad, Overhead Door Co. & Aluma-Kraft.
Jess is survived by three sons, Ronnie ( Marlene ) Hill, Jerry Day, Jesse Day; one daughter, Darleen Bennet ( Doug Long): seven grandchildren – Marquite Hill ( Jimmy), Danielle Day ( James Burns), Zacheriah Hill ( Mistelle), Racheal Gonzalez ( Mario), Shylia Bennet ( Chris) Curtlyn Hammond and Addie Day; two brothers, Dan Day and Nathan Day, two sisters, Brenda Jackson (Gary), Teresa Lambright (Kevin), two sister in laws, Faith Day & Bobbie Day, ten great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
He was proceeded in death by the love of his life, his wife Bety L. Day, one daughter; Lisa Hill, three sisters; Cora Baker, Lydia Hicks, & Mary Futrell, three brothers; Theodore Hall, Charles Day & Albert Day, four brother in laws; Julian Baker, Bill Hicks, Dwain Futrell & Edward “Bogie” Fain, two sister in laws; Mary “Tootsie “ Brooks and Louise Day and his parents; Milton & Addie Day.
