Joe P. Cavitt, 78, of Paducah passed away at 6:35 a.m. Christmas morning, December 25, 2009, at Lourdes hospital.
Mr. Cavitt was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 7, a member of the VFW, and was a recipient of a purple heart and two campaign bronze stars. He was retired from Paducah Water Works, loved hunting and fishing and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Lee Cavitt; two daughters, Karen Varner and husband Ben Varner and Kim Cooper and husband John Cooper; one son, Tim Cavitt; one brother, H.T. Cavitt; five grandchildren, Joseph Chad Cavitt, Amber Tyree, Justin Cavitt, Zachary Cavitt and J.C. Bocephus Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Cavitt, J.J. Tyree, Jackson Cavitt, Lily Cavitt and Kaden Cavitt.
Mr. Cavitt was preceded in death by his parents, Hardin Taff and Edith Starks Cavitt; one sister, Virginia Starks; and one brother, James Cavitt.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Lindsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Starnes and Sky McCracken officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery of Massac County, Ill.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday evening and from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday at Lindsey Funeral Home.
