John Eagan Goodhue, 74, of Paducah, KY, passed away at his home on 10/07/23 after a courageous battle with cancer. The diagnosis never slowed his zest for life and competition. He strived to remain in peak health, amazing his physicians and friends. John was born on 9/10/49 in Atlanta, GA to Wistar Evans Goodhue and Anne Eagan Goodhue. He grew up in South Hadley MA where he would learn a love for the outdoors and a deep appreciation for nature. He spent happy summers with family between Maskoma Lodge in NH and Sea Island GA. He attended Holderness Prep School where he honed his skills in skiing in the New England mountains. He graduated from South Hadley High School and became well known on the competitive ski circuit. He then went on to graduate from Johnson State College in Johnson, VT During College his competitive ski career continued. He was on the United States Ski Team ,a high level talent squad , on which he would travel the world competing and training. John excelled in slalom and giant slalom but loved the speed of the downhill competition. His teammates and competitors would remain lifelong friends. Following his ski career John became a representative for Spalding Sports in ski design and production. Because of his love of boating and the outdoors he founded Midstream Grocery which was a supplier to maritime vessels along the Ohio River. He also expanded his company to the Memphis area. He was a past member of the Paducah Rotary Club. He was a certified pilot which gave him the opportunity to travel to Saint Simons/Sea Island to visit family and friends regularly as well as acquaintances around the country. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and hunting. He loved cycling and conditioned daily. He was also an avid collector of classic cars and boats. John was a devoted friend to those who knew him and a world class athlete who kept training all his life. He is survived by his sisters Katherine Campbell, Susan Goodhue, niece Anna Ross (Clint), nephews Thomas Campbell (Ruth), William Goodhue, and a great niece and nephew. A private service will be held on St. Simons Island, GA and a celebration of life in Paducah, KY at a later date. Donations may be made in memory of John Goodhue to a charity of your choice, preferably in Paducah, KY., which he loved to call home. Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
