John Hartig, 91, of Paducah passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his residence.
He was born in Transylvania, Romania to the late Michael Pauli and the late Maria Neudorfer.
At a young age World War II forced him out of the country and he resided in a refugee camp in Austria for several years. With help from the Lutheran church he moved to Paducah, KY where he met his wife of 61 years, Michele Caubit Hartig. During their marriage he became a U.S. citizen and welcomed two sons, John Michael Hartig of Paducah, KY and Jimmy Pierre Hartig of Kevil, Ky; five grandchildren, Michael (Stefanie) Hartig of Murray, Michelle (Christopher) Hartig-Bass of Kevil, Daniel (Peyton) Hartig of Kevil, Blake (Kristain) Hartig of Kevil, and Britta (Tyler) Hartig of Kevil; and six great-grandchildren, Makenzi, Bella, Landon, Rowen, Anna, and Brantley.
He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 184 Union. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Faith and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where for decades he would greet you at the door as head usher with a smile and firm handshake. He also had a hug for anyone in need. His passion was his faith, his family, and his friends.
Funeral service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Paducah with the Rev. David Appold officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
