Johnny Gerald Box

Johnny Gerald Box was born November 11th, 1926 in Oxford, Alabama. He died peacefully on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at Lourdes Hospital of Paducah.

Johnny was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Carol Porterfield Box.

Johnny served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946 as a photographer for the Stars and Stripes Newspaper. He moved to Paducah in 1951 and worked for Brandt Photoengraving. he purchased the business and renamed it Box Photoengraving in 1953. In 1966 he started The Shoppers News. He was also co-owner of The Pines Restaurant which opened in Paducah in 1977.

He is survived by his children, Linda and Jeff Walton of Santa Cruz, CA., Judy and Max Bastani of Paducah, and Allan and Sheila Box of Paducah; grandchildren, Zoey and Ian Walton of Sacramento, CA., Jason, Richard and Johnny Box of Paducah, and Laila, Camron, and Cyrus Bastani of Paducah.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday, January 6th, 2017 to honor both Betty and Johnny Box starting at 3pm at Lindsey Funeral Home of Paducah. Friends may visit the family from 2:30pm until the service hour of 3pm on Saturday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made by contributing to the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Center of Paducah in their honor.
