In Loving Memory of Johnny Lee Klaffer, a Devoted Family Man and Cherished Grandfather
Johnny Lee Klaffer of Brookport, Illinois went home to be with the Lord at 11:28 PM Saturday, June 3rd, 2023. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory and the immeasurable love he shared with his family will forever remain in our hearts.
Born on September 6, 1957, at Riverside Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky, Johnny was a shining example of a man who dedicated his life to his family. His unwavering love and commitment were evident in every aspect of his being, making him the pillar of strength for those who were fortunate enough to know him. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
Johnny's love for his family knew no bounds. His marriage to his beloved wife, Melinda, was a true partnership built on reverence, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised a beautiful family, nurturing a love that will continue to flourish even in his absence. His family was the light of his life, and his life was spent emphasizing the importance of appreciating family bonds.
However, it was in his role as a grandfather that Johnny truly shone. His face would light up with joy at the mere mention of his grandchildren. Whether it was playing games, telling stories, or simply spending quality time together, he cherished every moment with his grandkids. His love and guidance shaped their lives, leaving an unforgettable imprint.
Beyond his role as a family man, Johnny was known for his generosity and community involvement. He possessed a desire to serve and a willingness to help others in need. Johnny served as Mayor of Brookport for two terms and many years as a City Councilman. He was a member of the Brookport First Baptist Church, and the Bay City Masonic Lodge, and had served in many other organizations throughout the years. Johnny worked as a rural mail carrier until becoming disabled in 2013.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 38 years, Melinda, and his two daughters, Jerrye Myrick (Nick) of Brookport, and Sarah Bennett (Frank) of Paducah. He has five grandchildren: Allyson, Olivia, and Isabelle Myrick of Brookport, and Ella and Bryce Vandermeulen of Paducah.
He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Klaffer (Patti) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jackie Klaffer (Theresa), and his sister Julia “Judy” Fitch (Bill) all of Brookport, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents James “Arnold” and Mary Klaffer, granddaughter Olivia Dunmire, brother Jerry Klaffer, and sisters Janie Beshears and Joyce Allen.
A visitation will be held at Brookport First Baptist Church from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Masonic Rites will take place at 6:30 PM.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Brookport First Baptist Church with the Rev. David “Buck” Siere officiating.
Through his commitment and passion for his community and family, Johnny Lee Klaffer touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
