Kay Sue (O’Brien) Hurst left this earth on her trip to heaven on February 2, 2020. She passed away at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center of Paducah.
Kay was born on March 2, 1938 to John and Margaret O’Brien. She was a graduate of Brookport High School in 1960 and a member of the First Christian Church in Brookport.
Kay worked for the City of Brookport as the city clerk until her failing health forced her to retire at age 75.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends. In her spare time, she loved growing and tending to her beautiful flowers.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Jimmilynn Travis, and son-in-law, that she adored, Jim Travis of Metropolis; her grandsons, Cory Calhoun of Gresham, OR. and Levi Travis of Paducah; three sisters, Joyce Bryant of Pekin, Il., Carolyn Worthington of Ruckersville, VA., and Mary Russell of Lakewood, CA.; several cousins, nieces and nephews; two special daughters, Lee Anna Greenwell and Jackie Gower.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hurst; son, Wyman O’Brien, Parents John and Margaret (Souders) O’Brien; her two brothers, Mike and Bill O’Brien; and three brother-in-laws, Vernon Bryant, Bob Worthington and John Russell.
Kay requested no visitation but did suggest a celebration of life dinner which is being planned at a later date.
