Leo Cummings

June 30, 1917 — January 19, 2009

Leo Samuel Cummings, 91, died at his home in Metropolis, Illinois on January 19, 2009. He was a devout Christian, a retired School Administrator, Ballroom Dance Instructor, Songwriter, and Fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gamblin Cummings; two daughters, Nancy Burnett and her husband John of Denver, Colorado; and Connie McGinnis and her husband David of Metropolis; three grandsons, Michael Burnett and his wife Katherine of Cardiff, California, David Burnett of Denver, Colorado, and Rodney Daub of Metropolis; one granddaughter, Laura Burnett of Fort Collins, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Sadie June Burnett, of Cardiff, California; one step-son, Steve Gamblin and his wife Tracy of Metropolis and one step-daughter, Patricia Faughn and her husband Mike of Illiopolis, Illinois; one sister, Mary Francis Brummett and her husband Joe of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one brother, Vernon Cummings, of Lonoke, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Six brothers, one sister, and his parents, Willie and Amanda Cummings of Lonoke, Arkansas, preceded him in death.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00, on Tuesday January 20, 2009, at Seven Mile Baptist Church in Metropolis. Visitation will follow at 4:30. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in his honor to The Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214, or Lourdes Hospice, PO Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002.
