Nancy Jane Scowden

26 May 1954 – 29 December 2018

Nancy J. Scowden lost her long struggle with cancer and passed into Heaven on December 29, 2018.

She was from East Palestine, OH and was born on May 26, 1954. She attended nursing school at Sewickly near Pittsburgh, PA and worked in the ICU and Dialysis units at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL. She moved to Paducah in 1985 where she raised her family and was a member of Broadway First Baptist Church.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Eric Scowden, MD; two sons, Blake (Sara) of Albuquerque, NM, Sean of Paducah; and two stepsons, Brent and Eric (Liz) of Nashville, TN; and two grandchildren, Grace and Joseph also of Nashville, TN. She has a brother, David Musser (Laurie) of Strongville, OH, and a sister, Susan (Mark) Smortilla of New Middle Town, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Chester Musser and her sister, Goldie Musser.

Nancy was an extraordinary person with many friends but also an inspiration to others for the strength, dignity and courage she demonstrated while battling sarcoma. She was a fixture running along Blandville Road trying to improve her odds in the fight. She was always cheerful. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed walking especially the beach, snow skiing, and traveling.

Nancy will be greatly missed by her family and friends and others who always will remember her awesome spirit and resolve to meet insurmountable challenges and never, ever give up.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5 at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Moore officiating.
