Patricia "Joan" (Dodge) Cates

Patricia “Joan” Dodge Cates, 74, of Dumfries, VA, formerly Bardwell, KY, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 after a brief illness.

Patricia was a loving wife, beloved mother, adored Nana, and cherished step and god mother, who filled her home with treasured Noah’s Ark knickknacks and an abundance of love. She was blessed with many long lasting friendships across the country, and always loved lending a willing ear to learn the stories of new people she would meet. Her life was filled with her passions of international travel, photography, and as much time spent with her ‘grandbabies’ as possible.

Born Saturday, December 8, 1945 in Carlisle County, she was the daughter of the late Spate Lee Dodge and the late Bessie "Gaynell” Dodge.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Cates of Dumfries, VA; children, Heather Fulkerson and husband Nathan of Fredericksburg, VA, Andrea McCary and husband Patrick of Austin, TX, Brandon Cates of Washington, DC, and Brittney Cates of Alexandria, VA; stepchildren, Stacey Fetz and husband Thom of Borden, IN, and Jody Cates and wife Rita of Borden, IN; grandchildren Todd “Jordan” Adams, Evan Adams, Ryan Adams, Austin Cates, Dustin Cates, Abram Fulkerson, James Fulkerson, Miles McCary, and Drew McCary; sisters Rebecca Cross of Bardwell, KY, Jacquelyn Saylors of Brookfield, IL; brother, James Dodge of Paducah, KY.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Doris Dodge and Donna Jones, and two brothers, Robert Dodge and Tommie Dodge.

The family will receive family and friends from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Lindsey Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:00pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell with the Rev. Jack Russell officiating.
