Sean Paul Garatt, 58, died April 2, 2019. Born in Waverly, in upstate New York, he was a founding member and consumer of NAMI NC (the National Alliance on Mental Illness North Carolina). First in North Carolina and then in Kentucky, he assisted his father Paul Garatt and mother Marcia Garatt with their teaching of Family to Family classes, which were designed to educate families about learning to support a relative with a mental illness. Sean faithfully attended meetings at the Paducah chapter of NAMI.
Despite his illness, Sean was blessed with a sense of humor, and coined such sayings as:
“A man is the king of the castle . . . in his own mind.”
“Toast leads to overeating.”
“If you don’t like the answer you get, just ask somebody else.”
He was predeceased by his father, Paul R. Garatt. He is survived by his mother, Marcia Garatt, of Paducah; son, Ian Garatt, of Miami Beach, FL, brother Geordie Garatt and wife Julia, of Paducah; nephews and niece, Seth Wyatt, Mark Taylor, and Kennedy Garatt of Paducah.
