Verna R. (Brown) Coppinger, 94, of Paducah, KY died at 6:12 p.m. on Sunday in the Hospice wing at Lourdes Hospital.
Mrs. Coppinger worked 33 years as the Secretary to the District Superintendents Office of the Paducah District of the United Methodist Church in Paducah.
She was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Bowling Green Business College. She was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Poetry Society and D.A.R. member #659787. She worked 2 years for TN Eastman Corp. at Oak Ridge, TN during WW11.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Hillis of Paducah, a daughter June Marie of Chattanooga, TN, two grandchildren, Jerry Edward of Paducah and Jason Hillis of Columbia, S. C., one great grandchild, Ellie Cade of Columbia and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Bonnie) Duck of Brentwood, TN.
She was an active member of the Paducah Art Guild for many years, taking some of the art classes they sponsored and serving on various committees. Also she took art lessons from Paducah artist, Clyde Lawter Jr.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Key Hillis Coppinger. Her parents were Alvie Edward Brown and Mrs. Stella (Redd) Brown.
Funeral services will be held at Lindsey Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday or from 11 a.m until the funeral hour on Thursday. Interment will be in the Mapleview Cemetery in Marion, KY with Rev. Steven Skaggs officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Immanuel Baptist Church, 3465 Buckner Lane, Paducah, Kentucky 42001.
