Walter Adcox

Walter Alfred Adcox, 81, of 2125 Mayfield-Metropolis Rd. in the Massac area of Paducah died at his home at 9:10am Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

Mr. Adcox was born September 20, 1932. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Lone Oak High School.
He served in the US Army in the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY for two years during the Korean War as a paratrooper and jumpmaster. He then worked for two years at Illinois Central Railroad before joining the Kentucky State Police as a trooper and eventually a Sergeant for 30 years. He served as a public information officer and a firearms training officer at the Mayfield Kentucky State Police post. He graduated from the University of Louisville National Crime Prevention Institute as class president. He served four years as Kentucky State Police Boating Enforcement Officer on the rivers of Western Kentucky. In 1969 Mr. Adcox received the statewide Trooper of the Year award, the most prestigious honor that can be achieved as a Kentucky State Police Officer.

He was a Kentucky Colonel and a Duke of Paducah. He was also a 42-year Master Mason at the Paducah Masonic Lodge #127 and a member of the Scottish Rite Masonry as a 32nd degree mason. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #15 in Paducah and a lifetime member of the Kentucky State Police Professional Association in Frankfort, KY.

Mr. Adcox is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Terry Mike Jeffrey of Paducah; one son, Kevin Adcox of Mayfield, KY; three grandchildren, Angie Hufford of Paducah, Adam Jeffrey of Walls, MS, and Amanda Adcox of Paducah; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Patsy Cooper (Clyde) and Wilda Faye Sherron, both of Paducah.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Alice Adcox; and his father, Walter Adcox Sr.

Funeral service will be Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lindsey Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Massac Church Cemetery in Paducah, KY.

Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
