William Stephens

On March 22, 2022 at 4:32 A.M. William Ray Stephens passed peacefully at the Ray and Kay Epstein Hospice Center in Paducah, Ky with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Stephens was born on Nov. 8, 1950 in Knott County, Ky to James and Martha Stephens. Mr. Stephens was the youngest child of 14 children and played basketball for Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Pass, Ky and also played basketball for Morehead University. He worked as an engineer on the eastern river-ways for most of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife Darlene Stephens of 44 years, his two children Jamon Stephens (Ashley) and Andrea Moore (Lance), three granddaughters Madisyn Stephens, Savannah Moore and Saylor Moore, four sisters Wanda Duff, Joy Slone,  Pat Hearn and Ima Jean Stone.   One brother Jack Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Martha Whitaker Stephens, brothers Curtis Stephens, Cledis Stephens, Clyde Stevens, Fred Stephens and sisters Ruth Hall, Edith Patrick,  Loriean Stephens and Edna Grace Stephens.

He absolutely loved the great outdoors and to travel. He instilled a sense of adventure in his entire family and always encouraged them to persevere in good times and in bad. Before taking a trip he would always leave before the designated time of departure to check things out before the rest of the family and they believe that is what he is doing now making sure the path is smooth for the rest of us that will soon follow.

Visitation for Mr. Stephens will be Friday March 25, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home.  The funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.  Interment will be at Joe Moore Family Cemetery in Calvert City.
