William Threlkeld, 87, husband, father, neighbor, friend, passed away at his home in Paducah, KY on November 27th, 2014.
Bill, as he was known to all, was born July 17, 1927 on the Threlkeld farm outside of Golconda, Illinois to Orpha and Harry Threlkeld. He was their fifth and youngest child. His siblings were George, Donald, Calvin and Ines.
He graduated high school in Golconda and joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945 1947. He met his wife of 67 years, Elinor Howard Threlkeld at the soda fountain in the drug store in Rosiclare, Illinois, and married her on December 6, 1947. They had two children, Phillip Howard Threlkeld and Marsha Ann Threlkeld. The family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1958 and Bill began working at Duval Corporation. He and Elinor raised the children and bought property on Mt. Lemon in the Catalina Mountains where Bill built a two bedroom cabin from the ground up. Before leaving Tucson, he walked Marsha down the aisle as she married Nicholas Guy and several years later drove straight through from Tucson to Seattle without stopping to sleep when his grandson Graham was born.
After Bill retired they moved to Paducah, KY. He became a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ and greatly appreciated the churchs ministry and fellowship. He also did administrative and volunteer work to maintain the Palestine Cemetery in Southern Illinois.
Bill could fix anything and liked to help everyone. He was an accountant by trade but master of many things more.
Bill is preceded in death by his son Phillip Threlkeld. He was survived by his wife Elinor Threlkeld, his daughter Marsha Threlkeld-Guy, son-in-law Nick Threlkeld-Guy, and grandson Graham Threlkeld-Guy.
A memorial service will be held at the Lone Oak Church of Christ at 2960 Lone Oak Road, In Paducah, KY on December 13th at 3:30 PM with the Rev. Larry Harris officiating. Family and friends welcome.
